What Are Single-acting & Double-acting Pneumatic Ball Valves

What are the single-acting and double-acting pneumatic ball valves?

The single-acting pneumatic ball valves have the normally open type (usually open, ventilation closed, and air spring return open).

The double-acting of pneumatic ball valves: the ventilation opens and when the ventilation closed and the air source has a fault, keep resetting the pneumatic ball valve is the pneumatic actuator of ball valves. The execution speed of a pneumatic actuator is relatively fast. The fastest switching speed is 0.05 seconds/time, so it is usually called the pneumatic fast cut-off ball valve. The pneumatic ball valve is usually configured with a variety of accessories, such as the solenoid valve, air source processing triplet, limit switch, positioner, and control box, to achieve local control and remote centralized control. We can control the valve switch in the control room. You do not need to go to the scene or high altitude and dangerous to bring manual control. The valve can save human resources and time and safety to a large extent. The pneumatic ball valve only needs to use pneumatic actuators by rotating 90 degrees of air source rotation and very small torque. Then, it can be closed tight. A completely equal valve body cavity provides the medium with little resistance and a straight flow channel. It is usually considered that ball valves are suitable for direct opening and closing. The main features of the ball valve are compact structure. It is easy to operate and maintain. It is suitable for water, solvents, acids and natural gas and other general working media. However, it is also suitable for poor working conditions of media, such as oxygen, hydrogen peroxide, methane and ethylene. The ball valve body can be integral, and can also be combined.

The maintenance and restrictions of pneumatic ball valves
1. Scope: the manual applies to the electric (or pneumatic) ball valve of the flanged connection ends.
2. Composition: by an electric (or pneumatic) actuator and ball valve body part. The connection is by the bracket and connecting shaft.
1) Temperature and pressure limits
2) The nameplate shows the maximum operating pressure allowed by the ball valve at maximum and minimum operating temperatures.
3) Use PTFE valve seats and seals. The operating temperature should be between 150 degrees and 200 degrees. Operating temperatures of other types of seats and seals shall be checked.
4) The nominal pressure level of a low-temperature valve (PN) can indicate the maximum working pressure of the valve at normal temperature. (For example, PN4.0 indicates that the maximum working pressure is 40 bar (4.0MPa) when the operating temperature is -290 degrees to 380 degrees).
5) For the notes on electric or pneumatic actuators, refer to its corresponding instruction manual.

What is the meaning of single-acting and double-acting in the pneumatic ball valve?

Installation of pneumatic ball valves
1) Take off the protective cover on both sides of the flange end, rinse and clean the valve when it is fully opened.
2) Before installation, the whole machine should be tested according to the specified signal (electricity or gas) (to prevent vibration from affecting the performance due to transportation), and the line can be installed after qualification (wiring according to the circuit diagram of the electric actuator).
3) Before preparing to connect with the pipe, rinse and clean the remaining impurities in the pipe (these substances may damage the seat and ball).
4) During installation, please do not use the actuator part of the valve as the lifting point to avoid damage to the actuator and accessories.
5) Class valves should be installed in the horizontal or vertical direction of the pipeline.
6) The pipeline near the installation point shall not bear external force. Pipe supports can be used to eliminate the deviation of the pipeline.
7) After connecting with the pipe, please use the specified torque to cross lock the flange connection bolts.

The operation and use of pneumatic ball valves
1) Before an operation, ensure that pipes and valves have been washed.
2) The operation of the valve is completed by driving the valve stem rotation according to the size of the input signal of the actuator. The valve is closed when the positive rotation is 1/4 turn (90°). Reverse rotation 1/4 turn (90°), then, the valve opens.
3) When the direction indicating arrow of the actuator is parallel to the pipeline, the valve is open. When the indicating arrow is perpendicular to the line, the valve is closed.

Maintenance of pneumatic ball valves
A long service life and maintenance-free period will depend on several factors: normal operating conditions, maintaining a harmonious temperature/pressure ratio, and reasonable corrosion data.
