This article is about the difference between
globe valves and ball valves? Which is good?
The opening and closing part of the
globe valve is a plug-shaped disc. The sealing surface is flat or conical, and the valve disc moves in a straight line along the center line of the fluid. Globe valves can be used to regulate the flow.
The globe valve is a forced sealed valve. When the valve is closed, pressure must be applied to the disc to force the sealing surface not to leak. When the medium enters the valve chamber from below the disc, the resistance needed to be overcome by the operating force. It is the friction force of the stem, packing and the thrust generated by the pressure of the medium. The force of closing the valve is larger than that of opening the valve, so the diameter of the valve stem should be large. Otherwise, the failure of the stem top bending will occur. In recent years, after the emergence of self-sealing valves, the medium flow of the globe valve changes from the top of the disc into the valve chamber. At this time, the force of closing the valve is small under the action of medium pressure. While the force of opening the valve is large, the diameter of the valve stem can be reduced accordingly. At the same time, this form of valve is also tight under the action of the medium.
When the globe valve is opened, the opening height of the disc is 25% to 30% of the nominal diameter. The flow has reached the maximum data, indicating that the valve has reached the fully open position. Therefore, the fully open position of the globe valve should be determined by the stroke of the valve disc. The globe valve is not suitable for medium with particles, high viscosity and easy coking.
The fluid resistance of ball valves is small. The full-bore ball valve has no flow resistance. It is easy to operate, open and close quickly. It only needs to rotate 90 degrees from fully opening to fully closing. It is easy to remote control. When the ball valve is fully open or fully closed, the ball isolates the seat sealing surface and medium. When the medium goes through, it will not cause sealing surface erosion of valves.
1. Ball valves
The ball valve can also be used for fluid regulation and control, including hard-sealed V-shaped ball valves. There is a strong shear force between its V-shaped core and the surfacing cemented carbide metal seat, which is especially suitable for fiber, small solid particles and other media. The multi-way ball valves on the pipeline can not only flexibly control the media confluence, shunt, and flow direction switch, but also can close any channel and make the other two channels connected.
2. Globe valves
Due to the relatively short opening or closing stroke of the stem of this type of valve, the cut-off valve has a very reliable cutting function. The changes of the valve seat through the mouth and the stroke of the valve disc is directly proportional, it is very suitable for flow regulation. Therefore, this type of cut-off globe valve is well suited for cutting or regulating as well as throttling.
The above is the difference between the globe valve and the ball valve, so which is better? Ball valves are more widely applied than globe valves. In this respect alone, ball valves are the better ones. However, when we choose the valve, we have to consider the condition, cost and other multiple factors. So which is better? We should select correctly according to the actual situation.
