Check Valve

As a kind of automatic valve, check valves are opened and closed automatically by the flow force of media in pipelines. Their main function is to prevent the medium from running back, the pump and its driving motor from reversing, as well as the medium in the container from releasing. The working characteristic of check valves is that the load changes greatly, with the frequency of opening and closing being small. Once they're closed and opened, the service cycle will be very long.

Check valves should be installed on equipment, fittings and pipelines to stop media from being in a direction contrary to the current. Check valves are generally suitable for clean media instead of applying to media containing solid particles and great viscosity. And they are also widely used in petroleum, chemical, liquefied gas, boiler steam system, minerals, food, pharmaceutical, power generation, urban construction, municipal, and other fields, greatly improving the comprehensive use of energy efficiency.

There are many types of check valves designed and manufactured by Topper, such as lift check valves, swing check valves, wafer check valves, tilting disc check valves, etc.

Lift check valves are to prevent the backflow of media in pipelines. They have springs to ensure discs are always in a state of dynamic balance regardless of the inlet pressure. However, the limitation is that they must be installed in horizontal piping systems. Lift check valves are only suitable for some occasions, like water systems, without strict sealing requirements, allowing a small amount of leakage. And they are usually applied for stopping the backflow of condensate in steam pipes and working at the outlet of the centrifugal pump.

Swing check valves and lift check valves have the same opening and closing principle that they can automatically operate relying on the function of fluid pressure and the disc's deadweight. While the differences are that the operation of the disc is the rotary motion instead of moving up and down, and the direction of fluid inlet needs to be on the side that it can give impetus to the disc rotation. The closure member of swing check valves is a disc whose diameter is the equivalent of that of the pipeline, hanging in the valve. Under the function of fluid pressure, the disc will open when the fluid flows forward, and close when the pressure declines. Due to the weight of the disc, the fluid will suffer relatively large resistance provided by swing check valves in a state of opening.

Wafer check valves are universal one-piece valves, with discs doing rotation about the shaft of the valve seat. This kind of check valve can be opened and closed fast, owning short length, small volume and light weight. Moreover, reliable wafer check valves are available for both horizontal and vertical pipelines and easy to be installed.

The design of tilting disc check valves is a change to traditional swing check valves actually because the position of the valve shaft is a little higher than the center instead of being at the top. The major advantage is that they can achieve non-slam operation, overcoming the impact and water hammer which may occur in swing check valves and lift check valves. Tilt disc check valves are able to be closed quickly due to the short distance of weight shifting in the open/close operation. With the streamlined design of the fluid channel, tilt disc check valves have low flow resistance and energy-saving effect.
