Classifications of Valves

How to identify valves?

Valves are used in all walks of life. Many products are controlled by opening and closing valves. We can also control the size of the valve opening and closing through the algorithm so as to achieve automatic control. The application of the valve is wide, so it plays a great role. For example, valves control the operation of boilers and steam turbines n power plants. It also plays a role in controlling the normal operation of all production equipment and process flow in petroleum and chemical production.

Despite this, valves are often overlooked compared to other products. For example, people often focus on the main machinery and equipment in the installation of machinery and equipment such as compressors, high-pressure vessels, boilers, etc. These practices will make the entire production efficiency reduced or production, or cause a variety of other accidents, so it is necessary for us to understand the valve.

Classifications of valves

There are many kinds of valve products, and the saying is completely unified. Some are divided according to the use of points (such as chemical, petroleum, power station, etc.). Some are classified according to the medium points (such as water steam, air valve, etc.). Some are divided according to the material points (such as the cast iron valve, cast steel valve, forged steel valve, etc.). Some are classified according to the connection form points (such as internal thread, flange valves, etc.). Some are classified according to the temperature points (such as the low-temperature valve, high-temperature valve, etc.). Most of our current habits are divided by pressure and type of structure. That is classified according to the nominal pressure: ≤1.6MPa for the low-pressure valve, and the pressure is 2.5 and 4.0, 6.4MPa for medium pressure valve, ≥10MPa for the high-pressure valve, and more than 100MPa for ultra-high pressure valve.

According to the type of structure, it can be divided into the plug valve, gate valve, globe valve and ball valve. It is used to open or close the flow of the medium pipe. Check valves (including bottom valves) are used to automatically prevent the backflow of media in the pipeline. Throttle valves are used to regulate the flow of pipe media. Butterfly valves are used to open or close the medium in the pipe. It can also be used for adjustment. Safety valves are used for boilers, vessels and pipes. When the medium pressure is too specific, it will automatically exclude excess medium pressure to ensure the safety of production and operation. Pressure-reducing valves are used to automatically reduce the medium pressure in the pipeline and equipment. When the medium passes through the gap of the valve disc, it produces resistance and causes pressure loss to achieve the purpose of decompression. Traps are used to automatically remove condensate from steam pipes to prevent steam loss or leakage.

Classifications by applications and functions

Truncation valves are mainly used to truncate or connect the medium flow which includes the gate valve, globe valve, diaphragm valve, ball valve, plug valve, disc valve, plunger valve, ball plug valve, needle type instrument valve, etc. Regulating valves are mainly used to adjust the medium flow, pressure, etc which include the regulating valve, throttle valve, reducing valve and so on. Check valves are used to prevent media backflow. Check valves of various configurations are included. Diverter valves are used for separating, distributing or mixing media including a variety of structures of distribution valves and traps, etc. Safety valves are used for medium overpressure safety protection. Safety valves of various types are included.

According to the pressure, valves are classified into vacuum valves in which the operating pressure is lower than the standard atmospheric pressure.
Low-pressure valves: the nominal pressure PN is less than 1.6MPa.
Medium pressure valves: the nominal pressure: PN2.5~6.4MPa.
High-pressure valves: the nominal pressure: PN10.0~80.0MPa.
Super high-pressure valves: the nominal pressure PN is greater than 100MPa.

According to the medium temperature, it can be divided into the valves as follows.
High-temperature valves: t is greater than 450 degrees.
Medium temperature valves: 120 degrees is less than t and t is less than 450 degrees.
Room temperature valves: 40 degrees is less than t and t is less than 120 degrees.
Cryogenic valves: 100 degrees is less than t and t is less than -40 degrees.
Cryogenic valves: t is less than -100 degrees.

Classifications by valve body materials
Non-metallic valves: ceramic valves, FRP valves, plastic valves, etc.
Metal valves: the copper alloy valve, aluminum alloy valve, lead alloy valve, titanium alloy valve, Monel alloy valve, cast iron valve, carbon steel valve, cast steel valve, low alloy steel valve, and high alloy steel valve.
Metal body lined valves: lead lined valves, plastic lined valves, enamel lined valves, etc.
