How to Distinguish Different Valves?

How to distinguish different valves?

There are a variety of valves on the market. Our common valves are butterfly valves, gate valves, check valves, ball valves, globe valves and so on. In addition, there are many safety valves and pressure valves used under special conditions. Some valves are very similar in appearance, function and so on. Then, how to distinguish various valves? This article will give you a preliminary understanding of the differences between these common valves so that you can distinguish between them.

Butterfly Valves

The butterfly valve plate is installed in the pipe diameter direction. In the cylindrical channel of the butterfly valve body, the disc rotates around the axis, and the rotation angle is between 0 degrees and 90 degrees. When it rotates to 90 degrees, the valve is fully open. The butterfly valve structure is simple. It has small size, light weight and simple operation. If the butterfly valve is fully open, its plate thickness is the only resistance when the medium flows through the valve body. Therefore, the pressure drop generated by the valve is small. It has better flow control characteristics.

The butterfly valve can be divided into soft-seal butterfly valves and hard-seal butterfly valves according to the sealing surface material. According to the connection form, the valve can be divided into clamped butterfly valves, flanged butterfly valves, and double-chipped butterfly valves. According to the driving mode, it can be divided into manual butterfly valves, electric butterfly valves and pneumatic butterfly valves.

Gate Valves

The gate valve is used as a cut-off medium, and the whole circulation is straight through when it is fully opened. At this time, the pressure loss of the medium operation is minimal. Gate valves are usually suitable for operating conditions that do not require frequent opening and closing. It keeps the gate fully open or fully closed. It is not suitable for use as a regulator or throttling. For high-speed flowing media, the partially opened gate can cause gate vibration. The vibration may damage the sealing surface of the gate and seat, and the throttling will make the gate suffer erosion of the media.

The gate valve can be divided into soft seal gate valves and hard seal gate valves according to the sealing surface material. According to the structure form, it can be divided into rising stem gate valves and non-rising stem gate valves. According to the driving mode, it can be divided into manual gate valve, electric gate valve and pneumatic gate valve. According to the connection form, it can be classified into flanged gate valves, clamped gate valves, welding gate valves and wire screw threaded valves.

Ball Valves

Ball valves evolved from plug valves. It can be opened and closed by rotating 90 degrees. The difference is that the cock body is a ball, with a circular hole or channel through its axis. The ratio of the sphere to the passageway should be such that the inlet and outlet should be completely spherical when the ball is rotated 90 degrees. Therefore, the flow can be cut off. Ball valves require only 90-degree rotation and a small torque to close tightly. A completely equal valve body cavity provides the medium with little resistance through the flow channel. It is generally considered the best for direct on/off use for ball valves, but recent developments have designed ball valves for throttling and flow control.

According to the driving mode, the ball valve can be divided into manual ball valves, electric ball valves and pneumatic ball valves. According to the connection form, it can be divided into flanged ball valves, welding ball valves and screwed ball valves. According to the structural form, it can be divided into fixed ball valves and floating ball valves.

Globe Valves

The stem axis of the globe valve is perpendicular to the sealing surface of the valve seat. Stem opening or closing stroke is relatively short. It has a very reliable cutting action. Once the globe valve disc is in the open state, its seat and disc sealing surface doesn’t touch each other anymore. It has a very reliable cutting action so that the valve is very suitable for use as a medium to cut off or adjust and throttle.

According to the driving mode, the globe valve can be divided into manual globe valves, electric globe valves and pneumatic globe valves. According to the connection form, it can be divided into flanged globe valves, welding globe valves and screwed globe valves.

Check Valves

The check valve is also called the non-return valve, commonly known as the single flow valve. According to the pressure difference, it can be automatically opened. The role is to automatically control the direction of liquid flow so that it flows in one direction and prevents its reverse flow.

The check valve is used for the water supply pipeline. The installation is strictly directional. It must not be installed in reverse.

Check valves can be divided into flange check valves, clamped check valves and screw check valves according to the connection mode. According to the structural form, it can be classified into lifting check valves, swing check valves, and butterfly check valves.
