What kind of valve materials is good?

Q: Hello Topper Valve, may we ask you what kind of valve materials is good?

A: As long as it is suitable for your own working condition, it is a good valve. Under the specific working conditions, we should choose the matching valve material. It can not only reduce the cost, but also ensure the service life of valves. Here we introduce the valve commonly used materials for a working condition for you. Perhaps it can let you have a clear answer about what kind of material valves is good.

The gray cast iron valve

It is applicable to water, steam, petroleum products and ammonia that can work in the vast majority of alcohol, aldehyde, ether, ketone, fat and other corrosive medium. It is not suitable for hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and other media. However, it can be used in concentrated sulfuric acid, because concentrated sulfuric acid can produce a captivating film on the metal surface, which can prevent corrosion of cast iron by concentrated sulfuric acid.

The ductile iron valve

Strong corrosion resistance can work in a certain concentration of sulfuric acid, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, and acid salt. However, it is not resistant to fluoric acid, strong alkali, hydrochloric acid and ferric chloride hot solution corrosion. Avoid sudden heat and cold when we using, otherwise it will break.

The carbon steel valve

The characteristics of carbon steel valves are similar to that of ductile iron, but carbon steel material has a wider temperature resistance and pressure capacity than that of ductile iron. Therefore, we need to use carbon steel valves in high temperature and high pressure conditions.

The stainless steel valve

The stainless steel valve has not only excellent gas resistance, nitric acid and other oxidizing media but also alkali, water, salt, organic acid and other organic compounds corrosion. However, it is not resistant to sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and other non-oxidizing acid corrosion. It is also not resistant to dry hydrogen chloride, oxidizing chloride and oxalic acid, lactic acid and other organic acids.

The copper valve

Copper valves have good corrosion resistance to water, seawater, a variety of salt solutions and organic matter. It has good corrosion resistance to sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, acetic acid and dilute hydrochloric acid without oxygen or oxidant. It has a good resistance to alkali. However, it is not resistant to nitric acid, concentrated sulfuric acid and other oxidizing acid corrosion, nor molten metal, sulfur and sulfide corrosion. Avoid contacting with ammonia, which can cause stress corrosion cracking of copper and copper alloys. It should be noted that different brands of copper alloys have certain differences in corrosion resistance.

The aluminum valve

It has good corrosion resistance to strong oxidizing nitric acid, organic acids and solvents. However, it is not corrosion resistant in reducing medium, strong acid and alkali. The higher the purity of aluminum, the better the corrosion resistance, but the strength decreases and can only be used for very low pressure valves or valve linings.

The above is a good introduction to what kind of material valves is good. Focus on us, MED Valve, and you will learn more about valve knowledge.
