Differences Between Fixed Ball Valves and Floating Ball Valves

Differences Between Fixed Ball Valves and Floating Ball Valves

The fixed ball valve is a new generation ball valve with high performance. It is suitable for long-distance pipeline and general industrial pipeline. It is strong and safe. It can resist the harsh environment in the design of special consideration. It is suitable for a variety of corrosive and non-corrosive media. Compared with the floating ball valve, the fluid pressure in front of the sphere is passed to the bearing force when it works. It will not make a sphere for the seat to move, so the seat will not bear too much pressure. The torque of fixed ball valves is small. The seat of the deformation is small. The sealing performance is stable. The service life is long, and it is applicable to high pressure and large diameter pipelines. The advanced spring pre-seat assembly has self-tightening features for upstream sealing. Each valve has two seats and can be sealed in each direction, so the installation has no flow restriction and is bidirectional. This valve is generally installed horizontally.

Differences between fixed ball valves and floating ball valves

1. The floating ball valve

Under the action of medium pressure, the ball can produce a certain displacement and tightly pressed on the sealing surface of the outlet end. We need to ensure that the outlet end is sealed. The floating ball valve is small in size, light in weight, simple in structure and good in sealing, but the bearing the load of the working medium of the ball is all passed to the outlet sealing ring. We should consider whether the sealing ring material can withstand the working load of the sphere medium. This structure is widely used in low and medium pressure ball valves.

The features and performance of floating ball valves

The floating ball valve is small in size, light in weight and simple in structure, and the ball has the free floating function. The valve has better sealing performance. The ball valve is a ball with a round through hole as the opening and closing parts. The ball driven by the stem can be rotated around the stem center for 0~90 degrees, which can complete the opening and closing function.

With the characteristics of compact structure and quick switch, the valve can be closed and the pipeline medium can be cut off by rotating 90 degrees. The diameter of the ball channel is the same as the diameter of the pipeline, with small flow resistance and large flow capacity. The valve stem is the lower mounted type, eliminating the occurrence of the valve stem out of the accident so as to ensure the safety of use.

2. The fixed ball valve

The ball of the fixed ball valve is fixed. It does not move after compression. All fixed ball valves have a floating seat. Under the medium pressure, the seat moves so that the sealing ring is pressed on the ball so as to ensure the sealing. Bearings are usually installed on the upper and lower shafts of the ball. The operation torque is small. It is suitable for high pressure and large caliber valves.

The characteristics and performance of fixed ball valves

The fixed ball valve is suitable for various high pressure in the pipeline. It is used to truncate or online in the medium. We should choose different materials. It can be respectively suitable for water, steam, oil, liquefied petroleum gas, natural gas, coal gas, nitric acid, acetic acid and oxidizing medium. A variety of media, like urea, are widely used in the petroleum chemical industry. the electric power and water conservancy, etc. The common driving modes of fixed ball valves are worm gear drive, manual, electric and pneumatic. Most fixed ball valves are flanged, but welded fixed ball valves are also available.

In simple terms, fixed ball valves and floating ball valves are generally different in the following points:

A. Floating ball valves - The spool ball rotates freely between the two seat rings with the help of a stem.

B. The fixed ball valves - The spool ball connects with the valve stem and rotates with the center of the valve stem. It is a valve with a floating ball and an elastic movable sleeve seat.
